If you found this page, that’s a blessing to me.
My name is Henry “Kreezy” Akin. My story is very similar to many of you who’ve landed here. I’m a recovering addict. Like a lot of people, I didn’t understand why my life was the way it was. I’ve always had a passion for music—whether it was country, rock, rap, or anything in between. I started writing music in the early 2000s.
In 2005, I hit a dark place. I lost my father at age 67, and six months later, I lost my right eye in a work accident. At just 19 years old, I was standing at the edge, ready to give up and pull the trigger. But shortly after, I found out I was going to be a father. That saved me—for a while.
Even though becoming a dad gave me a reason to keep going, I didn’t know how to express my emotions. I turned to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain. I kept writing music, but it had no meaning, no passion, no emotion.
I struggled with jobs, struggled to keep a roof over my family’s head—and I was still actively using.
Fast forward to 2015—I married my beautiful wife. She had no idea how deep my addiction had taken me until 2016, when she found out I was using cocaine on top of everything else. That’s when my family stepped in. I was incarcerated at Gun Club County Jail and placed in drug court. That was the first time reality hit—I might actually have a problem.
I wish I could say I got it right the first time, but I didn’t.
Eventually, I found music as a real way to express my deepest feelings. I started doing shows, spreading a message of hope and inspiration. But in 2019, I relapsed. For two years, I burned everything to the ground—my life, my family, everything I had worked for. It was all gone.
Then, on May 18th, 2022, I made a decision. I picked up that white key tag and told myself—and the world—that I can change. And so can you, no matter where you are in life.
Today, I am 3 years clean and back in the studio, working on my album. Through music, I can now express what I feel—without the consequences drugs used to bring. I can share my thoughts and struggles. Music is my therapy. It’s how I get things out of my head before I act on them.
You are not alone in this fight for your life.
There’s someone out there who will pick up the phone—because they care. I can only hope that my music brings hope to someone who needs to hear it.
That is my message. That’s my purpose.
My pain is my passion to keep going.
To my family—I want to thank you for never giving up on me.
Don’t become another statistic.
